Lesson objective

Visual signs of rips and why lifeguarded beaches matter.

What a rip is

A rip is a channel of water flowing away from shore. Signs can include darker, calmer-looking water between breaking waves. Appearance alone cannot establish safety. Use lifeguarded beaches and follow their flags and advice.
